The MAAE program combines two summers in residence with online coursework and research during the school year. The program invites art educators to deepen their studio practice while exploring contemporary practices in teaching art and conducting an action research study in their school setting. The MAAE results in a new body of work for exhibition, an article for publication and a sense of renewal in one's practice as an artist, teacher and researcher. Graduates have pursued their artistic careers, taken on new leadership roles, and gone on to doctoral study in art education.

Critical Studies MAThe Master of Arts in Critical Studies program at MICA gives students an in-depth grounding in critical theory, analysis, and writing through an intensive, one-year program set in the heart of contemporary cultural production. The program offers a uniquely pragmatic, hands-on approach to advanced design study. The MFA in Illustration Practice prepares candidates to elevate their artistic and business abilities, blend media within new cultural contexts, and integrate research and critical analysis into their work. The program embraces existing models of illustration practice while engaging new models and creating alternative markets.

The LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting is one of the nations only graduate programs to focus on painting, its history and its methods. Students develop a dialogue with the Director participating in most aspects of the program including selecting Visiting Artists, trips to Museums and galleries, and special activities. Each semester a renowned a Critic-in-Residence is chosen to deliver seminars and meet with students monthly.

Photographic and Electronic Media is a platform to explore the reverberating social and artistic uses of optical and electronic media technologies. Its curriculum and intent is to ground artistic practices in a rigorous investigation of historical and critical contexts; it prepares students to realize artistic projects involving complex techniques, and provides intellectual and technical skill sets demanded for professional practice and teaching. Crucial in the Photographic and Electronic Media program idea is to probe and extend the continuing efficacy of the photographic (in all its forms) while simultaneously recognizing that optical media have been challenged by computer graphics, animation, data-visualization, virtualization, mixing media, or by the incorporation of scientific, medical, or experimental technologies.

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Fine Arts offers an intensive fine arts studio experience that allows students to achieve a new level of mastery in art making. Post-Bac students pursue independent work, developing a disciplined studio practice that will carry forward into graduate study or work as artists outside of an academic environment.

MICA's Graphic Design Post-Baccalaureate (GD PBac) program offers students an intensive immersion in the language and practice of graphic design. Tailored for individuals who seek to work with a select group of dedicated peers in a challenging and supportive environment, the program will prepare students for advancing their careers and/or for applying to competitive MFA programs at MICA and other colleges and universities.

One of the oldest programs of its type in the United States, Rinehart is at the center of innovation in this evolving art form. Students work in a wide range of mediums and approaches‚ from stone carving and metalscasting to installation and time-based art‚ reflecting in their work the complex nature of sculpture as contemporary art‚ meta-medium.

The Master of Arts in Social Design (MASD) is a one-year, interdisciplinary graduate program offering an experiential and creative approach to understanding and addressing the challenges facing society. From a foundation in visual communication and design thinking, the program delivers its content through a variety of curricular and project-based learning opportunities in conjunction with visiting faculty and scholars from different disciplines and backgrounds. This low-residency, 60-credit interdisciplinary MFA program is designed for experienced artists who want to pursue graduate study without disrupting their ongoing careers. The emphasis of the program is in integrating practice with theory, where students are encouraged to be independent thinkers and researchers who may focus within one specific medium or work across various media. This low residency program includes four summers of six-week residencies at MICA, a winter critique each year and distance learning when students are not in residence at MICA.

Teaching MA
The Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) provides outstanding preparation for teaching of art. The curriculum integrates hands-on teaching experience with coursework in practice, current theory, and research. Graduates of MICA‚ MAT program are highly competent teachers of art who are skilled practicing artists. The two-year residency leads to certification to teach art in grades K–12.
