Anne Mulgrave, "Accessibility Revolution"
7:00-8:30 PM, Lazarus Center Auditorium, Lazarus Center
Anne Mulgrave, Manager of Grants and Accessibility, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (GPAC), has lead a regional initiative to increase access to the arts for people with disabilities as patrons, artists, volunteers and employees. The GPCA is the home of this initiative that has, in almost three years, engaged over 60 cultural organizations of all sizes and disciplines in welcoming people with disabilities.
Mulgrave intends to focus on art by people with disabilities. She demonstrates how many artists use art as a tool to illuminate what it is like to live with a disability. She then will build into why it is crucial for art experiences to be accessible. Through tangible examples of universal design, programming, and artwork Mulgrave clearly addresses how aesthetic does not need to be sacrificed in exchange for accessibility. Her intention is to show accessibility and equality in the arts as an opportunity, not a burden.
Sponsored by Curatorial Practice, with support from Graduate Studies, Office of Student Affairs, Student Activities Office and the Mixed Media Lecture Series. MICA’s Office of Community Engagement will provide American Sign Language interpreters. ADA 25th Anniversary Series curated by Samantha Redles ( CP 15’)
